Our Roots

It was 2009, the height of the recession and San Francisco was the Wild Wild West. With a dream and a lot of hope, we bit the bullet and opened up shop on the corner of Market & Church. Business was down, the economy was grim, and people were losing jobs left and right. We knew our main goal was to bring some light and life to that little corner. We wanted to make sure everyone that walked through our doors would leave in a better state than they walked in whether it was just a conversion…or life altering eyewear. We were 3 zealous entrepreneurs. Our dad was cutting lenses in the back and the kids, with our Great Dane Saffy, were running around the shop on the weekends. We took pride in our eyewear styling, finding the right eyeglass frame to fit each unique face. We obsessed over making sure the best vision was provided when looking through the prescription lens. We meticulously cared for the fit of the frame, molding and adjusting each one perfectly on the face. We wanted to be masters at our craft in a world filled with subpar eyewear and opticians.

We loved that little corner store so much. We loved our neighborhood. We loved our people. Gratefully, they loved us back. We were having the time of our life.

After the first year we expanded to James’ stomping ground, the Marina and Veo Optics won “Best Place To Buy Eyewear” in the Bay Area. We held that title so high and with such honor. We were enamored by the support we had received from our community. We were fueled to continue to work hard and raise our own standards. And to this day, after winning 14 consecutive years, we still hold that title so high but with even more honor and weight.

We’ve opened many stores, moved, changed with the times and are now happy we have 4 solid locations—3 (Mission District, Marina District, & Petaluma) to cater to our Bay Area clients and now 1 in Los Angeles (Silver Lake) to reach our clients who have relocated to Southern California and provide the best eyewear service Angelenos have ever experienced.

It has been a great journey so far and one that we hope to continue as we keep serving the Bay Area as well as greater Los Angeles. We appreciate all our clients who have walked through our doors, and who have changed our lives. We hope that we have the the opportunity to continue providing you with the best eyewear experience.

Veo Optics presents Kenzo Takada x Masunaga

For over 10 years we’ve carried Masunaga. A reputable brand that has been around since 1905. From making eyewear for the Emperor to winning Silmo Awards, Masunaga has showcased years of craftsmanship and quality. Bringing on Kenzo Takada and his team, Masunaga releases K-3, a titanium and Japanese acetate line composed of intricate detail and unique and wearable color combinations. Each frame is a work of art incorporating filagree, color pops, and titanium nose pads. The line exudes quiet luxury revealing its uniqueness only upon up close inspection and focusing on comfort and function. It has easily become one of our favorite lines to carry. With the passing of Kenzo Takada in 2020, his legacy and designs live through his team who thoughtfully designs and carries out his vision to this day in a limited and exclusive line.
